Oreo Balls
While making a dinner I had a request to make something with Oreos. Some googling and I found a fast, three ingredient Oreo ball. This is an indulgent, chocolate filled dessert with room for personal choices to adjust flavors.
Ingredients
Oreos (any flavor you want)
3 bars of baking chocolate (any flavor you want)
12 oz cream cheese (any flavor you want)
Prep
Use a food processor to pulverize about a row and a half of Oreos, from a normal pack
Pour the demolished crumbs into a small mixing bowl
Scoop the cream cheese into the bowl
Stir either by hand or hand mixer if you have one available
Make sure all measly crumbs and dust get mixed in
Lay out a flat tray like a cookie sheet and add a layer of foil, parchment or heck nothing if you don't mind clean up
Use a scoop or your hand to roll the mixture into balls or lumps of whatever size and place on tray
Freeze for at least 15 minutes to make the next part easier
While waiting on that, let's melt the chocolate
There are about 3 different ways I know of to melt chocolate:
Boil or warm a pot of water and place a bowl over it. Add the chocolate to the bowl and let the steam melt (my method)
Toss it in a bowl and toss that into a microwave
Grab a hair dryer and waste your morning
After melting the chocolate however you choose, pull out the chilling cream cheese and Oreo centers
Pop the mixture one at a time into the bowl of melted chocolate and roll it around coating it. I used a spoon to lift it out and shake off the excess
Place back on the tray and repeat for all the balls you made
Stick in the fridge to set the chocolate
Afterthoughts
This makes a dessert that is loaded with sugar and chocolatey goodness if you use original flavors like I did. The simplicity of the recipe gives you options to change any part of the taste! Maybe you want to use white chocolate and peppermint Oreos with strawberry cream cheese, or golden Oreos and bitter dark chocolate and savory garlic and herb cream cheese like the monster you are. Your only limitation is what you can find at the supermarket or order online.
This is something fast and easy you can make for the kids or yourself because Oreos are amazing. The taste is rich and indulgent. I had my brother eat these for me and he provided this review: ’Very chocolaty, wonderful mix of textures between the shell and the fluffy center, and encourages fast enjoyment before it melts in your fingers. Milk is practically required, in a good way’
