Simple and Easy Gnocchi for any taste

Simple and Easy Gnocchi for any taste

Prep: 1 hour Cook: 3-5 minutes

I haven’t had a lot of gnocchi but what I’ve had, I love. I wanted to try and recreate the magic and I have a lot of potatoes to get through so here we are. It’s crazy simple just takes waiting. And it has an option ingredients section.

Ingredients

  • 1 potato

  • 1 egg

  • at least 3/4 cup flour

  • Salt

Optional Ingredients

  • Garlic

  • Onion

  • Pasta sauce of any kind

  • Soup

  • Thyme

  • Italian Blend

  • etc..

Prep

You want to get it crumbled down but doesn’t have to be full mashed potato

I got quite a few from one potato

  1. Set a pot of water with a bit of salt boiling

  2. Slice potato in half or so

  3. Add to boiling water and let boil until tender. Expect this to take up to 45 minutes

  4. Take potato out and place on a cutting board

  5. Peel the potato (this will be super easy and just fall right off)

  6. Take a fork and mash the potato down

  7. Let sit to cool about 10 minutes

  8. Take the egg and beat it

  9. Pour the egg over the cooled potato (you don’t want it hot enough that it cooks the egg)

  10. Add the flour to make it a dough. I used quite a bit, way more than a cup to get it not so sticky

  11. The best way to mix is to cut it through by using like a metal spatula or an icing tool. I used an icing tool to fold the mixture in and in on itself and slicing it constantly to mix things together until it got to a good mixture so I could begin lightly kneading it like a dough

  12. At this stage you can also add any other flavors if you’d like

  13. Separate the dough into smaller bits that are easier to manage

  14. Roll them into thin eel like dough bits that are about as thick as your fingers

  15. Slice to smaller little nuggets

  16. Boil another pot of water

  17. Add the nuggets to the water and when they pop to the top they’re done

Afterthoughts

I added thyme to mine after I finished to give a small taste

I did not season mine as I made soup to go with it and it tasted great in the soup. The lack of seasoning is evident with it on it’s own as it is just potato, egg and flour. You do want to season (maybe regardless) and there’s a lot you could do. With the easy cooking after mashing the potato it has endless possibilities to make it your own. A super easy dish that was fun to make and fun to eat.
