The Best Kind of Old Fashioned: The Lemon Drop
Anderson, Indiana has an old school burger shop still serving since 1953. Limited space and decor from the days it was build, this small gem is a place of pride and delicious tastes of the past.
The restaurant is a small location with a center bar that wraps around the cooking station with a few booths lining the outside. An old fashioned Coke dispenser and jukebox add for the nostalgic decoration with my favorite part: a model train that loops the entire space.
Famous for the Onionburger, which is onions cooked between two thin patties, the Lemon Drop has a simple yet not limited menu. The requisite burgers, onion rings, fries and chicken sandwiches are included as well as tenderloin, milkshakes, grilled cheese and a few more options.
We tried the onion burger, a normal cheeseburger, onion rings and fries. While the onionburger came on a bun, the burgers also come on grilled toast for melts and more. As mentioned the patties are thin but they still pick a wallop of flavor and are super filling. I oversold my stomach with a double onion burger. A greasy, heaven but you do need to be hungry for it. The onion rings were the perfect fluffy coating that was fresh from a fryer and the fries while simple complimented the burger well. My milkshake was thick and creamy.
If you’re looking for a nostalgic journey and great burger, hit the Lemon Drop. It will hit every taste exactly right. Burgers bursting with flavor, perfectly cooked to order fries, onion rings and toasted buns, you’ll feel full and satisfied for many hours afterwards.
