Cherry Danish with a Bit More Love

Prep: 25 minutes Bake: 15 minutes

I’m not used to pastries and this is a great beginner one. It uses pre-prepped ingredients put together for a delicious time that could make anyone happy. This was also my first time trying cherries and I really liked it. That was a bonus.

Ingredients

  • 8 oz cream cheese. You want to soften it

  • 3/4 cup powdered sugar

  • 1 egg

  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

  • 2 tubes crescent rolls (8 oz ones) (I used the Hawaiian sweet roll)

  • 1 can cherry pie filling

  • 2-3 tsp milk

Prep

I tried but didn’t make it all the way around

You want the edges free to roll later

You almost make a pie top

  1. Preheat oven to 375 F

  2. Find a small enough but not too small bowl in your cupboard

  3. Add the cream cheese and 1/4 cup of the powdered sugar and beat this until it’s smooth. This is why you want the cheese soft

  4. Add the egg and vanilla and beat until it’s just combined and set this aside

  5. You’ll want a pizza stone/pan to cook this one

  6. Grease it and add some flour if you’d like to prep it to be non stick

  7. Open the rolls and roll them out

  8. They should be portioned a bit in triangles. I just used them in the shape they are but the recipe recommended cutting them into even smaller triangles

  9. Put four triangles full sized triangles aside

  10. Lay out the rest into a circle to make like a pizza without the center. As I didn’t cut mine smaller, to have the edges touching, I could not make a full circle and this was fine.

  11. Pinch and smooth the edges together

  12. Spread the cream cheese mixture all over the top like a pizza sauce but leave some spaces at the edges, just a bit

  13. Take the cherry pie filling and pour on top, leaving space still at the edges

  14. Roll the edges to wall int he filling and reinforce the edges

  15. Take the triangles you set aside and cut them long-wise

  16. Stretch these over the top and press to connect with the inner and outer edges. This will make little bridges over top.

  17. Bake this for 15-20 minutes

  18. Cool on a wire rack

  19. In another bowl add the rest of the powdered sugar and the milk in small doses. Stir this until it’s the thick or thinness that you want

  20. Drizzle over the cooling danish

Afterthoughts

Gooey and deliciously

This was such a great taste. The bottom was crispy and amazing and the top a perfect gooey and warm mess. I say only eat this warm. That’s the way to go. Cherry pie is apparently amazing and I can see why people love it. The cream cheese mixture made a nice base. This was ooey-gooey and pulled apart like a sharable pizza and was a lot of fun to eat. A simple dessert that any family could love.
