Apple Pie Cinnamon Rolls
Prep: 20 minutes Bake: 12-14 minutes
I wanted to get some fall tastes and try something new for me. That was how this was born. I knew I wanted apples in the rolls but I didn’t have a clear vision of how before I just tried something. It worked so well and made a perfect apple pie taste. This is fast, easy and super great
Ingredients
1 can sheet dough from Pillsbury (or make your own dough as long as it’s rectangular and can hold the innards)
1 honey crisp apple
1/4 cup brown sugar
2 tsp sugar
1/2 stick butter
1 tble cinnamon or more to taste
cornstarch as needed
Prep
Preheat oven to 350 F (177 C)
Set a pan to medium heat on the stove
Slice your apple to thinner chunks
Melt the butter into the pan, you will want it to brown
Add the apples, brown sugar, sugar, and cinnamon and mix well to coat the apples
Stir often and cook until the apples have softened, it will smell amazing
Slowly add cornstarch a tsp at a time, until the mixture is thick and bonding, while still being spreadable. You don’t want it to be a runny liquid anymore
Roll out your dough
Scoop the mixture onto the dough and spread, leaving at least a quarter inch from the sides
Select an edge and roll the mixture. (The pillsbury dough was a bit too flimsy for this, but I don’t have a good dough just yet as replacement)
Slice and add to a grease pan for baking
Bake 10-12 minutes or until lightly browned
Afterthoughts
I was shocked at how much this tasted like an apple pie. I loved every bite. My dough seemed flimsy but baked nice and strong and was fantastic. The savory dough went well with the sweet of the apple cinnamon insides. I did not use an icing but it can add to the experience. This was fast, easy, and impressed my family. This can be an easy breakfast or dessert to delight any person.
