Breakfast Skillet Bowls
One thing matters, and that is: Breakfast is the best meal of the day. All breakfast foods are my favorite. I love the mix-and-match nature of breakfast foods as well. You can get away with it a lot more than any other meal, I feel. That said, I tried some skillet bowls today.
Ingredients
1/4 lbs Sausage
Milk
All-purpose flour
1 potato
2 eggs
1/4 cup shredded cheese
Garlic powder
Cayenne
3 tbls Butter
Prep
Grab a larger cast-iron skillet and heat to medium
Wash and chop the potato
Add 1 tbls butter to the skillet
Dump the potatoes in and stir occasionally. Add the garlic powder to taste
As the potatoes start to soften, shift to one side of the pan
Add the sausage to the other side, and chop as it cooks
Heat another pan on medium-low
When the sausage finishes cooking and is no longer red, add some flour lightly to coat it.
Keep stirring those potatoes
Add 1 tbls butter and let it melt with the sausage
Add the cheese to the potatoes as mix to melt
Remove the potatoes and stick in a bowl
Grab the milk and pour it slowly into the mixture and stir until you get the consistency you want for your gravy. Add more flour as needed. Add cayenne to taste
Add the last of the butter to the other skillet
Crack both eggs into the pan
Remove the sausage gravy and pour on top of the potatoes
When eggs cooked as you please, add to the top the bowl
Sprinkle more cayenne to taste
Afterthoughts
This was amazing and the exact type of breakfast I love. The runny yolks in my eggs added extra flavor that mixed well with the gravy, and all of this coated the potatoes gloriously. This can be changed and adjusted in so many ways. Add bacon, add veggies, add rice, remove the gravy, add scrambled eggs, anything you can think of!
