Festival Month Funnel Cakes

Prep: 10 minutes Cook: 5 minutes

I love festivals so much and miss them a lot. I cannot wait until I can visit more safely. I wrote about my love of them in my travel post and so this month we’re dedicating our recipes to festivals. First up is Funnel Cake.

Ingredients

  • 1 egg

  • 1/4 cup milk

  • 1 tbls water

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1/2 cup flour

  • pinch of salt

  • 3/4 tsp baking powder

  • 1/2 tbls granulated sugar

  • cinnamon to taste

  • powdered sugar to taste

  • veggie oil

Prep

  1. Heat up the veggie oil to 350 F (177 C)

  2. While the oil is heating, add the wet ingredients into a bowl and mix well

  3. Add the dry ingredients(minus the powdered sugar and cinnamon) and mix, it should be like a pancake batter

  4. Pour the mixture into anything with a spout for pouring

  5. Use a thermometer to verify the oil temp

  6. When ready, pour the batter in and move around, back and forth to make the ropy dough look. If it’s not hot enough, the dough will spread out and flatten

  7. Cook about 2 minutes until browning and use tongs to flip

  8. Cook other side until brown and then remove from oil

  9. Dust with the powdered sugar and cinnamon

Afterthoughts

Funnel cakes are such a timeless part of festivals it feels and this recipe is super easy and fast. That’s the best you can ask for with sweets. I will be super happy being able to make this again.
