Bring Some Love with Red Velvet Cinnamon Rolls

Bring Some Love with Red Velvet Cinnamon Rolls

Prep: 20 minutes Bake: 15-20 minutes

This is a showstopper to hear about it, or to see it at first. It’s unique enough and relatively easy to make. That’s the best combination for things to make. I loved making it, though I did waste time by not knowing the difference between instant and non instant yeast. This is much easier if you use instant yeast. A tasty treat that brings a little extra to your taste buds. Let’s dive in.

Ingredients

  • 1 box red velvet cake mix

  • 2 1/2 - 3 cups flour (if you’re like me, you’ll need a LOT more)

  • 1/1/4 cups warm water

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar

  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon (if you’re like me, you’ll want a lot more)

  • 1/4 cup melted butter

  • 1/4 oz instant dry yeast

  • 2 cups powdered sugar

  • 2 tbls softened butter

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 3-5 tbls milk

I had too much flour but it was too sticky. More flour fixed that and I was able to dust off the excess and save things

They bake up and together

They bake up and together

  1. Preheat oven to 350 F

  2. Add the cake mix, 1 cup of the flour, and yeast to a bowl (mixer bowl if you have it. I do now) and mix it around to combine

  3. Add the water and beat for 2 minutes. This will make a sticky dough. Super super sticky. Like insanely sticky.

  4. Add flour to a dry surface and move the sticky dough to it for kneading

  5. Add more and more flour until it’s less sticky and keeps its form. I used a crazy amount of flour to fix the sticky and turn it into a workable dough

  6. Once this is a manageable not so sticky dough and formable, roll it out to 1/4 in thick rectangle

  7. Brush this with the melted butter completely

  8. Mix the brown sugar and cinnamon in a bowl

  9. Spread this mixture out across the dough covering it

  10. Dump more and more cinnamon to your level of love for cinnamon

  11. Roll this starting at a short edge

  12. Slice the roll into however many slices you’d like and add to a greased pan

  13. Bake for 15-20 minutes

  14. While baking, beat the powdered sugar, milk, vanilla and softened butter until it’s a smooth icing that you can spread across the rolls

  15. Spread icing on the rolls after done baking

Afterthoughts

These were a great variation on cinnamon rolls. The smooth taste of red velvet went well with the cinnamon roll and the buttery taste enhanced things. I had a few accidents with the dough before making it but it was still great. I got about a dozen smaller rolls out of this easy. I loved the taste warm. It was a super sweet and cinnamon filled treat that tasted just right. Instant yeast really brings down the time needed without having to prove and this would make anyone happy in the morning to start their day.
